Welcome to the Camestone School computing page. Here you will find information about computing at Camestone, detailing the content taught in each year group and the progression of digital understanding throughout a child’s time with us. We follow the Kapow scheme of study and build upon key knowledge of computational thinking, digital literacy and information technology.
Children have the opportunity to develop their computing skills year on year, using technology purposefully to solve problems, create digital media and program systems. This is further enriched through hands-on experiences with hardware, software and online safety workshops, which enhance our core curriculum offer. Families are also supported with resources to promote safe digital habits at home, ensuring our pupils navigate the online world responsibly.
Every child at Camestone engages with creative computing projects throughout the year, giving them the invaluable experience of designing, building and sharing their digital work with our school community. We also take part in digital events and initiatives, such as Safer Internet Day, encouraging active and ethical participation in a modern digital society.
Computing is the study of computational systems, digital technology, and the application of logical thinking to solve problems and express ideas.
To program — understanding how to design, write, test and debug algorithms and code to achieve specific goals.
To create — appreciating how to use software and digital tools to produce, manipulate and present media creatively.
To analyse data — recognizing how information is collected, organized, stored and presented to draw meaningful conclusions.
To navigate safely — identifying and applying the principles of digital literacy to use technology respectfully, securely and responsibly.
Each year, children become more skilled in these key concepts, building upon their prior knowledge and deepening their understanding. Our intention is that by the time they leave us in Year 6, pupils will:
Design, write and debug programs using sequence, selection, and repetition to solve computational problems.
Make informed choices about appropriate software and hardware when designing and creating digital content.
Use logical reasoning to understand computer networks, search engines and how digital content is stored and retrieved.
Navigate the digital world confidently and responsibly, demonstrating a clear understanding of online safety, privacy and respectful behavior.
