Exploring learning together
At Camestone School, we aim to give every child the best opportunities to be curious and excited about mathematics. Our curriculum, which primarily follows the White Rose programme of study, is designed to ensure every child becomes a fluent mathematician while developing strong oracy and mathematical thinking skills. We want our pupils to approach problem-solving with a metacognitive mindset, building the independence and sophistication needed to tackle complex challenges both in the classroom and beyond.
To ensure that maths is truly for everyone, we use a Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach, providing pupils with equipment, resources, and various representations to deeply engage with mathematical concepts. Throughout the year, we draw parallels between learning and real-life contexts to highlight the relevance of these skills. This practical focus culminates each June, when we deliver a dedicated month of financial education. This initiative, involving local buisinesses and the community, prepares our children to have healthy relationships with money and saving, while encouraging them to explore future careers and maintain high aspirations for themselves.
A highlight of our mathematical calendar is the exciting yearly launch of Times Tables Rockstars and Numbots. This dedicated day of celebration sees the entire school community dressing as rockstars to engage in high-energy "Arena Battles" and other activities and games related to number. We take great pride in our competitive spirit; Camestone has successfully held the local TT Rockstars Trophy for the last two years running! It is a day designed to celebrate the joy of maths and build the confidence and excitement that our students deserve.
